A Tribute to 250 Years of American Independence
After several weeks of design work, I am excited to share my latest commemorative fantasy banknote concept: the $250 United States Semiquincentennial Note, created in honor of the 250th anniversary of American independence.
This note was designed as a collector’s piece and artistic tribute to one of the most significant milestones in American history. It is inspired by the style and complexity of traditional U.S. currency. As a disclaimer: it is marked as not legal tender and was created solely for educational, historical, and numismatic appreciation.

Obverse Highlights
The front of the note features:
- The Statue of Liberty
- The Liberty Bell with a commemorative “250 Years of Independence” ribbon
- A custom commemorative seal
- Patriotic motifs, including stars, eagles, and security-inspired design elements
- A subtle “We the People” background honoring the opening words of the U.S. Constitution

Reverse Highlights
The reverse side celebrates the enduring symbols of American liberty:
- A detailed engraving-style depiction of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence
- Independence Hall, where the Declaration was debated and adopted
- A 250-year commemorative theme incorporating the years 1776-2026
- Colonial-era signatures and manuscript elements inspired by America’s founding documents
- A modern interpretation of a high-denomination U.S. banknote layout
The Design Challenge
One of the goals of this project was imagining what a modern commemorative U.S. banknote might look like if a special denomination were created specifically for the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration while keeping with American traditional banknote design.
While similar to existing notes, the design combines traditional engraved banknote aesthetics with modern security-inspired elements, color accents, and historical symbolism to create something that feels both familiar and unique.
Collector’s Note
Fantasy banknotes occupy an interesting space between art, history, and numismatics. They allow designers, like me, to explore “what if” concepts that may never be officially produced while celebrating important events and historical milestones.
As America approaches its 250th birthday in 2026, this concept serves as my artistic interpretation of how that celebration might be represented on a commemorative banknote.
