Ukraine 1 Karbovanets First Post-Soviet Banknote
Dated 1991 and issued by the National Bank of Ukraine, this 1 Karbovanets note comes from Ukraine’s first series of coupon banknotes following the dissolution of the Soviet Union. Although dated 1991, the note was officially issued on January 10, 1992 as Ukraine established its own monetary system following independence. The obverse features a sculptural image of Lybid, the legendary sister of Kyiv’s founders, based on the Monument to the Founders of Kyiv. The reverse depicts Saint Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv, one of Ukraine’s most important historic and architectural landmarks.
The note is compact at only 105 × 53 mm and uses a repeating line-pattern watermark. The 1 Karbovanets was eventually demonetized on October 1, 1994.
Condition: Uncirculated (UNC). No folds, tears, or creases. Stored flat in a protective currency sleeve.
