Yugoslavia 10,000,000 Dinara Banknote (P-144) | 1994 | UNC
This 10,000,000 (10 Million) Dinara banknote represents one of the final chapters of Yugoslavia’s historic hyperinflation crisis. Cataloged as Pick P-144, the note was issued in January 1994 after the government revalued the currency yet again in an attempt to combat runaway inflation. Rather than creating an entirely new design, existing banknotes were overprinted with a red “1994” date and reissued for circulation.
The obverse features renowned Yugoslav writer and Nobel Prize laureate Ivo Andrić. The reverse depicts the National Library of Serbia. Due to the rapid pace of inflation, this denomination circulated only briefly before being replaced by the Novi Dinar later in 1994.
Historical Significance
The P-144 note is one of the most interesting products of Yugoslavia’s hyperinflation period. It was created by overprinting an earlier design during the short-lived “January Dinar” reform. The January Dinar itself lasted only weeks before being replaced by the Novi Dinar, making these notes tangible reminders of one of the most severe inflationary episodes in modern economic history.
Condition
This note is offered in Uncirculated (UNC) condition. The serial number and prefix may differ from the example shown, but all notes are genuine Pick 144 issues. Some notes may display minor handling marks consistent with long-term storage.
