With the launch of our New Banknote Releases section, we’re taking a quick look back at some of the most significant new banknotes introduced or announced since late 2025.
This isn’t intended to cover every new signature, date, or minor design update. Instead, we’ll focus on new denominations, completely new designs, commemorative issues, and significant redesigns that introduce substantial changes to a banknote’s appearance, security features, or substrate.
We’ve also included older series that reached new denominations in 2026. Macau is a good example: its current series was authorized in 2020 and began entering circulation in 2024, but the 500- and 1,000-pataca notes were not released until February 2026.

A note about the order: New releases are added to this list as they are announced, confirmed, or come to our attention. As a result, they may not appear in chronological order by their actual introduction or circulation date. Newest additions will appear first. This post will not be updated after it’s published. New releases will have it’s own post.

 | Canada – 20 Dollars (2027) Bank of Canada unveils new vertical $20 banknote with advanced and dynamic security features. It honors their constitutional traditions through the portrait of His Majesty King Charles III and recognizes the service and sacrifice of Canadians through the Vimy Memoria.  | Azerbaijan – 100 Manat Azerbaijan introduced a new 100-manat banknote in 2026 featuring an updated design and modern security features. Read our full article: Azerbaijan Issues Upgraded 100 Manat |

 | Eastern Caribbean States – New EC Dollar Series The Eastern Caribbean Central Bank unveiled a major redesign of its EC dollar banknotes in July 2026. The new designs replace Queen Elizabeth II with national heroes and regional icons representing the eight members of the Eastern Caribbean Currency Union.  | Ukraine – 2,000 Hryven Ukraine announced an entirely new 2,000-hryvnia denomination featuring poet and dissident Vasyl Stus. The note enters circulation September 4, 2026. Read our full article: Ukraine Introduces New 2,000-Hryvnia Banknote |
 | Solomon Islands – 50 Dollars Introduced June 18, 2026, this new polymer 50-dollar note commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Central Bank of Solomon Islands.1 |
 | Abkhazia – 200 Apsars Introduced June 8, 2026, the new 200-apsar banknote features Nestor Lakoba on the front and a traditional Abkhaz homestead on the reverse. |
 | Guatemala – 100 Quetzales A commemorative 100-quetzal banknote entered circulation May 25, 2026, celebrating the 80th anniversary of the Banco de Guatemala.2 |
 | Cuba – 5,000 Pesos Cuba introduced a new 5,000-peso denomination in April 2026 featuring Celia Sánchez Manduley. It is one of two major new Cuban denominations introduced during the year.3 |
 | Zimbabwe – New ZiG “BiG5” Series (10-50) 🛒 Zimbabwe began introducing its upgraded BiG5 ZiG banknote series in April 2026. The redesigned family consists of ZiG10, ZiG20, ZiG50, ZiG100 and ZiG200 notes with enhanced security features.4 |
 | Cuba – 2,000 Pesos Cuba also introduced a new 2,000-peso denomination featuring Mariana Grajales Cuello, forming part of what appears to be a new family honoring prominent Cuban women.5 |
 | Brunei – New Dollar Series 🛒 Brunei has announced a new family of $1, $5, $10, $100 and $500 banknotes featuring upgraded security features, new accessibility elements and updated designs.6 |
 | Saint Helena – New Polymer Series Saint Helena introduced completely redesigned £5, £10 and £20 polymer banknotes in January 2026. The new series features King Charles III, new island imagery, updated security technology and tactile denomination identifiers.7 |
 | Botswana – 50 Pula Botswana commemorates the 50th anniversary of the Bank of Botswana on front while the back celebrates Botswana’s first-ever Olympic gold medalist, sprinter Letsile Tebogo, and his fellow Olympic teammates.8 |
 | Bangladesh – 10 Taka 🛒 Bangladesh continued the rollout of its redesigned banknote family with a new 10-taka note featuring the Baitul Mukarram National Mosque and imagery connected with the July uprising.9 |
 | Honduras – 200 Lempiras 🛒 Honduras issued a new commemorative 200-lempira banknote in 2026, adding a special issue to the country’s relatively young 200-lempira denomination.10 |
 | Macau – 500 & 1,000 Patacas Macau completed the rollout of its new banknote series when the 500- and 1,000-pataca denominations entered circulation February 6, 2026. The series was originally authorized in 2020, with lower denominations entering circulation beginning in 2024. |
 | Czech Republic – 100 Korun A new commemorative 100-koruna banknote was introduced January 21, 2026, continuing the Czech National Bank’s series of special numismatic banknote issues. |
 | Syria – New Syrian Pound Series Syria began rolling out an entirely new banknote series in 2026 following the fall of Bashar Assad’s government. The redesign removes imagery associated with the former government and represents one of the year’s most significant national currency changes. |
 | Oman – 1 Rial Oman introduced a new commemorative 1-rial banknote on January 11, 2026. Their first ever polymer note. |
 | China – 20 Yuan 🛒 China issued a new commemorative 20-yuan banknote in 2026 as part of its continuing series of special currency issues. |
 | Morocco – 100 Dirhams Morocco closed out 2025 with a new commemorative 100-dirham banknote, adding another special issue to the country’s recently redesigned banknote family. |
