This 1919 Russia 500 Rubles banknote (Pick P-103) was issued by the Russian Socialist Federative Soviet Republic (RSFSR) during the turbulent years following the Russian Revolution and throughout the Russian Civil War. As inflation increased and the nation’s monetary system underwent dramatic changes, larger denomination notes became increasingly important in everyday commerce. Known among collectors as the “Babylonian Note,” this issue is famous for its reverse design displaying the slogan “Workers of the World, Unite!” in multiple languages, including Russian, English, French, German, Chinese, Arabic, and Italian. This distinctive multilingual design makes it one of the most recognizable early Soviet-era banknotes.
The obverse features ornate text and denomination panels of the RSFSR, while the reverse incorporates the state emblem and multilingual revolutionary slogans. Today, these notes remain popular among collectors of Russian, Soviet, and world paper money.
Condition: aUNC-XF. No main folds, tears, or creases. Very clean. Small corner bends. Stored flat in a protective sleeve. See photo.
